Day 13 – Outer Banks, NC

Outer Banks, NC

It’s been quite a while since we’ve posted anything, when you stay at campsites like KOA sometimes you have to realize that the wifi isn’t going to be that spectacular. Honestly we didn’t even try to use it to upload photos or blog, I connected it to my phone once and decided it wasn’t going to be worth the effort so we figured we would update the blog at a later date!

Visiting the Outer Banks was like a vacation from our vacation. We stayed at the Cape Hatteras KOA Resort and it was really relaxing. We were the only “brave souls” camping out there, so we were pretty much THE customer in 45 degree weather. In our little two person tent, it really wasn’t bad at all. We tried to start a fire the first night and it was just too windy.  We wasted $7 trying to burn some wood and it burnt out in about an hour and a half.

The next morning it was beautiful, it was in the high 60’s and we decided to use our morning to explore the beach a bit. We hung out and I got a bit of sunburn then we decided to go see some other things. We knew that route 12 was a great drive so we drove to the end til we reached the ferry. The next one leaving wasn’t for another 45 minutes so we decided to go check out the lighthouse that was nearby instead.

It rained that whole night, and while it was super relaxing to hear the rain on the top of the tent the next morning it was not fun packing the car up in it. The whole tent was soaked from taking it down, Elliot was cooking and that wasn’t easy from wet, high winds… and then once we got the car packed and we went to go leave our windshield wipers we’re acting wonky…

While that morning wasn’t fun, it was an experience to say in the least bit and I’m glad that we went through it. At least we know a bit more for ourselves right?
